Hey, if you have never attended a Bloomington Prairie Thunder Hockey game–for whatever reason–you’re absolutely missing one of the best entertainment values available in McLean County!

Even if you don’t “get” hockey–and don’t think you like it– doesn’t matter, you’ll learn to like it after the first five minutes of the start of the whole crazy show.

Even if you were against the building of The Coliseum in the first place, don’t let that stop you from taking family or friends out for a relatively inexpensive evening watching a fast-paced, action-packed professional sporting event.  The Thunder fan base is huge and boisterous and they make sure newcomers have a great time too.

The house staff of The Col is equally friendly and helpful.  Politics aside–The Col managment knows how to make people feel welcome.

Seating in The Col is very comfortable with easy access to all sections.  There is plenty of affordable food and beverage available along the concourse, with short lines.  The restrooms are big, and clean: no line-standing there either.

Contrary to persistent rumors, parking is widely available at various lots around The Col, usually for as little as $5.  Free parking near The Col neighborhood is also often found if you come early.  (And yes folks, the neighborhood at night is safe. After nearly five years of event-hosting there has never been any problem with pedestrians at The Col being hassled or accosted by nefarious critters.)

Tickets for the General Seats ”up high” in the bowl seem to be just as good as most of the higher priced “lower” seats nearer “the glass,” frankly.  The “sky boxes” offer great seats and other amenities too.

But if  you just want to put a toe in the water, single game General tix are just $14 for Adults and $11 for Students and Seniors.  You don’t need to purchase tix in advance either–use the walk up ticket area on the south side of the buidling facing Madison Street.  Tickets are now sold inside so you won’t have to stand out in the cold this year.

Okay, okay, so you’ve heard the Thunder are exactly a Championship team. Yet.  The team finished last season with a 31-34 record, which is Progress.  Hey–not every local professional sports team can be as good as The Extreme Indoor Football team was right out of the box! No, the Thunder is still a work in progress.  True.

But that doesn’t matter either.  Win or lose, it’s still a romp of a great time to go to a live hockey game here in Dowtown Bloomington  and share the experience with several thousand hometown fans.   And who knows, you might find out you really do understand Hockey. And, like it!

If so you wouldn’t be the first BoNo Urbanite who suddenly found himself sucked into the Thunder fan base.  Happens all the time.
